Justin Lutz of Gilbertsville was power washing a home on Nov. 16 when the ladder slipped and he fell two stories, according to his GoFundMe campaign.
He was airlifted to a trauma center after landing on a cast-iron post that lodged in his chest, loved ones said.
"He is currently in ICU where the staff are working to help him heal and stay as comfortable as possible," wrote page organizer Toshya Gonzalez.
Doctors found Justin suffered a broken sternum, fractured ribs, and a collapsed left lung, she said.
"Our hope is that he will be released from the hospital by Thanksgiving so he can spend time with family and friends."
Gonzalez, a close friend of Justin and his wife Cassy, said she and other organizers are raising money on GoFundMe to help keep the Lutzes afloat while Justin is out of work recovering.
"Cassy and Justin were hesitant to ask for help and had very mixed feelings about creating a GoFundMe campaign," she said.
"We, as their friends, asked that they allow us to create the page as we know without a shadow of a doubt they’d each do the same for us if needed."
In just three days, the effort has raised over $14,000 of its $20,000 goal.
